She has made several circumnavigations and many ocean crossings, as well as innumerable day sails and coastal cruises. Some families use a Nor'Sea as a liveaboard vessel, and the Nor'Sea has been raced (PHRF 228). The boat is street-legal but requires a specially-built trailer and "real" truck to tow it. Nor'Seas have been trailered all over the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Most hulls are the aft cabin model. The older ones have a table which can be raised and lowered on the mast compression post , with the main settee area to port (a narrow seat is also located athwartships, some of which functions as the seat to the nav station). A double berth is located in the forepeak; the athwartships settee backs fold down to extend it to adult length. The newer ones have a "conversation settee"on both sides, and the table lowers to form the double berth. Two single berths are located in the aft cabin. The Nor'Sea is also available as an aft cockpit model. Its interior is much like that of the new aft cabin model.
To date, approximately 450 Nor'Seas have been built. If you want a used one, you have to look diligently. For a new boat, contact the manufacturer at bobeeg@earthlink.net, visit the Web site at http://www.norseayachts.com, or call 949-489-8227.
Dean Wixom, father of the Nor'Sea, has graciously consented to allow us to print his history of the development of the boat.
A boat crawl is a standard part of any cruise-in! We love to show off and talk about the most beautiful boat in the world and see what cleverness other owners have used to solve problems and customize. And of course, good food, good fun, and good sea stories (all of which are true, of course!) figure prominently. Please contact "Mama Nor'Sea," Mari Campbell, at axpfinplan@aol.com, to be added to the mailing list.
Several of us have private Web sites dealing with the Nor'Sea. Please go to our links page for a start.
The national Nor'Sea newsletter, NewsLine, is now being edited by a husband/wife team here in NorCal, Jill and Greg Delezynski atg-j-delezynski@worldnet.att.net. It is available on-line at http://members.tripod.com/~norsea27/nl16.htm.
